The Summer of 2015/16 was another exciting one for cricket in Canterbury; the Canterbury Kings had a successful Georgie Pie Super Smash campaign, finishing 3rd, and were the first New Zealand franchise to play against an Australian Big Bash side when we hosted the Sydney Thunder at Hagley Oval. The Kings want to build on the success of last season and make this coming season one that children in Christchurch will never forget!
The Canterbury Kings value the community and recognise the importance of looking after our supporters. Last season the Canterbury Kings successfully launched ‘Kings in the Schools’ which is a part of our Kings in the Community Programme. Last year the Canterbury Kings visited 2,500 school children. This year we aim to see even more schools, aiming to see over 3,00 students.
The Kings in the Community School Programme involves members of the 2016/17 Canterbury Kings and Magicians squads visiting Year 5-8 students for a 1-hour cricket session. The School have an option of a Skills Experience or a Life Experience. The Skills Experience will provide students with a chance to learn from Canterbury’s local cricket heroes and play modified cricket games alongside them. The Life Experience session encompasses role modelling through more passive activities such as speeches, question and answer sessions or reading books to classes.
Every student who participates in the Kings in the Community Schools Programme will receive Kings branded giveaways and will have plenty of time for a photo and signing session with the players!
